The English Greyhound Derby 2006 title was won by Westmead Hawk meaning he was able to retain his title from the year before. It became only the fourth greyhound in history to win the Derby twice. Nick Savva's star, who was trailing Mineola Farloe around the last bend, produced his customary burst of late pace to snatch the victory on the home straight. Thus setting the fastest time of the year at the venue and paving the way for his stud career that would follow.
